Do small businesses need a website chatbot?
A website chatbot is a small assistant on your site that answers common questions, collects enquiry details and passes warm leads to you, day or night. For a business that gets the same questions every week, or enquiries outside working hours, it can save time and stop leads slipping away. For a business with only a handful of enquiries a month, a good contact form may be enough for now. This guide helps you decide.
What a website chatbot does
- Answers common questions about your services, prices, opening hours and areas, using the information you give it.
- Collects enquiries. A visitor leaves their name and contact details, and you get them straight away.
- Hands over to you. When someone wants a quote or asks something personal, it passes them to you.
- Works at any hour, so a customer gets an answer at midnight as quickly as at noon.
Who benefits most
- Service businesses that answer the same questions again and again: what you charge, where you work, how it works.
- Businesses that miss calls while they are on a job, such as trades, clinics and salons.
- Businesses with customers in different time zones, where the question arrives while you are asleep.
- Businesses running ads, where every lost enquiry costs money.
Who may not need one yet
A business with very few enquiries, or one that sells only through phone calls, may do better with a clear contact form and a quick reply routine first. A chatbot is a good second step once the questions start to pile up.
What a good chatbot looks like
A good chatbot stays on topic, uses only the information you give it, says plainly that it is an automated assistant, and hands over to you when a personal reply is best. It never invents prices, offers or availability. It should look and sound like your business, and it should be easy for a visitor to reach a real person.
What a chatbot costs
Costs have two parts: a one-off set-up (loading your information, styling it, adding it to your site and testing it) and a monthly fee that covers hosting, usage and updates. These are our packages:
- Chatbot Starter, £399 set-up, then £39/month. A friendly assistant on your website, answering customers for you. Includes: trained on your services, prices, hours and FAQs; lead capture with instant email alerts; styled to match your brand and added to your website; monthly conversation summary; live in about 7 working days.
- Chatbot Pro, £699 set-up, then £69/month. Turn more conversations into bookings and enquiries. Includes: everything in Starter; whatsApp handover for warm leads; enquiry and booking flow; replies in English, Hindi or Arabic; monthly report with improvement ideas.
- Automation Workflow, £249 per workflow, one-off. Take a repetitive job off your plate for good. Includes: one automation of your choice, built and tested; for example: enquiry alert with a friendly auto-reply, leads saved to your sheet or CRM, or booking reminders; connected to your website and email; one-off price; if your workflow needs a paid app, we tell you the cost before you pay; live in about 5 working days.
Chatbot set-up is paid in two parts: half to start and half when you approve it, before it goes live. The monthly fee starts when the chatbot goes live, and you can cancel at the end of any billing month.
Questions to ask any chatbot provider
- What does the set-up include, and how long does it take?
- What do I pay each month, and what does that cover?
- Who keeps the information up to date when my prices or hours change?
- What happens when the chatbot does not know an answer?
- How are visitors' messages stored and protected?
- Can I cancel, and do I keep the content that was prepared for me?
Privacy and trust
In the UK, tell visitors they are talking to an automated assistant, explain in your privacy policy how chat messages are handled, and collect only what you need. Your provider should agree data-processing terms with you in writing before launch.
Getting started
Share your services, prices, opening hours and the questions you answer most. We turn that into your chatbot's knowledge, test it with you and add it to your website. A Chatbot Starter is live in about 7 working days. See the details on our chatbots and automation page and in the pricing page.
Chatbot questions
Will a chatbot replace me?
No. It handles the repeat questions and collects details, so you spend your time on real conversations and quotes.
Can a chatbot be added to my existing website?
Usually yes. We can add it to most websites, and we'll check yours as part of your free growth plan.
What does the chatbot know?
Whatever you share with us: services, prices, opening hours, locations and FAQs. It is set up to stay on topic and to pass the visitor to you when a personal reply is best.
What is an automation workflow?
A repetitive job taken off your plate for good, such as an enquiry alert with a friendly auto-reply, leads saved to your sheet or CRM, or booking reminders. It is £249 per workflow, one-off.
